Cruise Terminal Zeebrugge, Belgium

Cruise Terminal Zeebrugge, Belgium

ORG was one of the candidates to build a new cruise terminal in Zeebrugge. To optimally fit the program, this building consists of a wide base (the actual terminal and the reception area), a slender middle part (with technical space and circulation) and a wide top (the offices and the terrace). The proposed form, a hyperboloid, follows directly from the organizational diagram. The hyperboloid consists of a series of identical straight columns, inclined and rotated around the axis of the building. These columns are arranged at a regular distance and kept together by the floors, which act as ring structures. The form is thus easy and inexpensive to raise and in addition self-supporting.
