Firestation, Bornem, Belgium

The municipality of Bornem has decided to appoint a designer for a new fire station. ORG made a proposal for a compact, durable and efficient, yet unique building. Thanks to the level difference in the plot, the fire station can be compactly stacked and still enjoy two entrances on ground level. The different fluxes through the building (firemen, volunteers, visitors) are separated for optimum efficiency in case of intervention. A public path through the building connects both entrances and gives visitors a view on the fire trucks but no access.
By applying principles from industrial construction, we succeed to make an affordable building. This industrial standard materials are used in a unique way giving the building a clear civic identity.
