Masterplan “Abatan 2020”, Brussels, Belgium

The Masterplan “Abatan 2020” develops an urban and architectural scenario for the gradual conversion of an industrial site hosting a slaughterhouse towards a mixed urban environment. Reinforcing an existing monumental market shed, the plan proposes a large central urban square that can host regional cultural events as well as a popular local market. The new plan identifies its borders as a tissue of urban warehouses hosting economic activities. The Masterplan anchors the large strategic lines of the overall plan but restricts itself to the description of a set of principles for each of the architectural elements in the plan; the large square, the urban warehouses, the compact slaughterhouse and the circulation.
